Looking Glass
A portrait of My Mexican Heroine the Beautiful Wife of diego rivera by John McDonald
Looking Glass is a beautiful portrait of Mexico’s most-loved artist, by Derbyshire based Scottish Artist John McDonald. He calls her his Mexican Heroine.
Looking Glass depicts the Mexican artist, the wife of Diego Rivera, in the traditional Tehuana Mexican costume she loved to wear, with red headscarf, blue under-scarf with beaded trim, sheer white lace blouse and traditional Tehuana jewellery. Here the Mexican Heroine is depicted fictitiously looking at herself in a mirror.
The rich colour and opulence of Looking Glass continues John McDonald's Mexican Heroine series. He has a very literal empathy with Mexico’s most-loved artist, and the body of work as a whole explores human themes of love and loss, suffering and strength, and passion for life.
The original painting Looking Glass is available to buy through this website, or you may contact the artist direct if you wish to make an offer.
With innocence bordering on naivety, John presents a range of work which is refreshing, exciting, and accessible, pleasing both the art lover and the incidental viewer. From stunning large scale portraits to intimate interiors, John’s passion and pathos is hard not to succumb to.
An outsider artist whose practice is the key to survival and relationship, following 17 years of profound deafness, John McDonald’s work declares:
